The profile grid is tall now. Size for it.
In 2025 Instagram changed the profile grid from squares to 3:4 tiles and began accepting 3:4 photos in the feed. The safest size changed with it.
- 1080 × 1440 shows in full in the feed and the grid.
- 1080 × 1350 fills the feed; the grid shows its middle 1012 pixels.
- 1080 × 1080 loses a quarter of its width in the grid.

Keep words out of the app's way.
Vertical video carries the app's own name, caption and buttons on top of your picture. On a 1080 × 1920 frame, keep text and faces out of roughly the top 250 and bottom 340 pixels.

Design once, crop three ways.
If you post the same picture everywhere, start tall with the subject in the middle. Every other shape is a crop of it.

A centred 1080 × 1080 crop keeps the subject and takes more room in the LinkedIn feed than a wide image.

Add space above and below to reach 1080 × 1920, and keep the words inside the safe area.

What size should an Instagram post be in 2026?
1080 × 1440 (3:4) fills the feed and the profile grid without cropping. 1080 × 1350 (4:5) is also fine in the feed, but the grid shows only its middle 1012 pixels, so keep faces and text away from the left and right edges.
What size are Stories and Reels?
1080 × 1920 (9:16) on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Keep text and faces out of the top 250 and bottom 340 pixels, where the app puts names, captions and buttons.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 × 720 (16:9). Keep the main subject and any words large and central, because thumbnails are often seen very small on phones.
What is in the downloadable frame?
A PNG at the exact size with the safe areas outlined. Open it in your design app as a guide layer, or place your picture under it to check nothing important is cut.
