Engagement Rate Calculator
Type in your own numbers from your last posts. You get your engagement rate by followers and by reach, what makes it up, and where it sits on the usual scale.
Your numbers
Totals across the posts you counted. Numbers with commas are fine.
Engagement rate by followers
What makes it up
The rate, and the numbers behind it.
Most calculators stop at one percentage. This one shows how it is made up, how it compares on the usual scale and what to change next.
Rate by followers
How much of your own audience reacts to each post.
Rate by reach
How good each post is with the people who actually saw it.
Interactions per post
The raw reactions behind the percentage, per post.
What makes it up
Likes, comments, saves and shares as one bar, so you see what is missing.
A plain reading
Where your rate sits on the usual scale and one change to make.
Five platforms

How the rate is worked out.
The same arithmetic agencies use: reactions averaged over the posts you counted, divided by followers. Reach uses the same reactions divided by the people who saw the posts.
Two rates, two different stories.
With 12,400 followers, a photo seen by few people and a Reel seen by many can look alike on one rate and opposite on the other. Reading both tells you what to post more of.
- By followers shows a post's total pull, including people who do not follow you yet.
- By reach shows how good a post was with whoever saw it: the fair way to compare a quiet photo with a Reel that travelled.
- Compare this month with last month, with the same number of posts.
Where your number sits.
There is no single right number: it changes with the platform, the size of the account and the trade. As a general guide, many marketers read the rate by followers like this. The fairest comparison is still with your own last month.
Four things that move the rate.
None of them need more posts. They need posts that give people a reason to react.
Post the format they react to
Count your last 12 posts by type. More of what brings saves and shares, less of what gets scrolled past.
Ask one clear question
A specific question gets answers; a general one gets silence.
"Which of these two would you choose?"
Give them something to keep
Checklists, prices, before and after, step by step. These get saved.

What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform, the account size and the niche. As a general guide many marketers treat under 1% by followers as low, 1 to 3% as average, 3 to 6% as high and over 6% as very high. Smaller accounts usually score higher than large ones, so compare yourself with your own last month first.
Should I use followers or reach?
Use both. The rate by followers tells you how much of your audience reacts. The rate by reach tells you how good each post is at getting a reaction from the people who saw it, which is fairer when most of your views come from people who don't follow you yet, as with Reels and TikTok.
